Karkala, Aug 5: In an unanimous decision taken at the municipal session convened on Monday August 4 under the presidentship of municipal president Bhoja Kotian, the Moodbidri municipal authorities have been empowered to demolish and evict unauthorized constructions that are mushrooming all over the town.

Councillors pointed out that a building has been built adjacent to the road at Ladi in Prantya village. Councillor Prema Salian took the municipal officials to task for failing to do anything in the matter even after intimating them about it several months in advance. The building has already come upto the second floor, she pointed out. Councillors also said that the Panchami Apartment located on the rear side of the market had built a platform without permission. It was decided to demolish these structures.

The councillors also expressed their unhappiness over the fact that the petty shops located near the bus shelter do not contribute anything to the municipality. It was decided to fix monthly rentals for them and to auction them annually commencing from next year.

Municipal vice-president Koragappa, councillors P K Thomas, Ratnakar Devadiga, Basheer, Harinakshi etc., participated in discussions.
