Sullia, Aug 5: State Congress leaders T M Shahid and Waheeda Ismail came in for bitter criticism at a meeting of Congress leaders held at Sullia on Monday August 4.
Zilla panchayat member Chandrshekhar Kamat threatened to resign from his post and stop working for the party, in retaliation for the action of Bellare gram panchayat president and state Congress leader Waheeda Ismail in filing a false complaint against ex-president of Bellare gram panchayat Anil Rai, resulting in his confinement in judicial custody.
Another Congress worker Harish Kojugod threatened to resign from the party if T M Shahid, state youth Congress president and member of Choir Board, is not removed from his posts for having challenged Puttur block Congress president and also his autocratic behaviour.
Congress leader Veerappa Moily opined that Waheeda should not have registered police complaint against Rai. He asked the local block Congress committee to send a detailed report to the district unit on the issue.
In his welcome address, Bharat Mundodi dealt with issues like the Bellare police case and press statement issued by T M Shahid. Chandrashekhar Kamat resented the party leaders' action in acting against party members on silly issues. "Our leaders rather than protecting the members, are filing complaints against them," he said and offered to resign from his post and the party.
Block Congress president Bharat Mundodi opined that political broker-ship of Sullia is creating problems. Honest workers will suffer unless strict action is taken. Another member Sathish Kojugodu criticized Shahid for getting plum posts without working for the party.
