Mangalore, Aug 6: Oppressing the persons who raise their voices against injustices inflicted on them by the people in power, is nothing but practicing autocracy in this democratic set up. BJP has tried to curb the people's movement in every part of the state by using the brute force of the police. BJP has shown its fascist nature by taking recourse to caning the protestors who were exercising their democratic rights on Monday August 4, said G V Sriram Reddy, CPI (M) state leader and former MLA.
Addressing the media persons on Tuesday August 5, he stated that the voters of the state are now repentant over casting their votes in favour of the BJP. A huge protest will be staged in front of the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) office against the caning of the protestors on Monday August 11. Other secular parties like JD (S), BSP, SP etc will join the proposed protest, he informed.
It is the duty of the people's representatives to receive the memorandums as and when submitted by the protestors. Even the prime minister and chief ministers receive the memorandums and discuss with the representatives of the protestors about their grievances. Refusing to receive the memorandum, claiming that there is no such practice in the MCC, is nothing but the pinnacle of foolishness, he opined.
Nearly 500 people were staging protest and shouting slogans outside the Corporation office. But the mayor claims that he did not know that the people were protesting outside the office. This statement shows the irresponsibility of the mayor, Reddy commented.
CPI (M) leaders Yadav Shetty, K R Sriyan, B Madhav and Balakrishna Shetty were present at press meet.
