Mangaluru, Feb 13: A college student from the city collapsed at his hostel and breathed his last. This incident happened on Monday February 12 morning.

The deceased was Joel (18) from Kolyur near Manjeshwar, Kasargod district. He was a student of Shree Devi Institute of Technology here. After he collapsed at the hostel on Monday morning, arrangements were made to take him to a private hospital in the city but he did not survive the journey to the hospital, it is learnt.

The deceased student was the son of Roy Mathew from Sarkudelu near Kolyur. Roy Mathew's family had shifted base from Bandadka near Kasargod to Kolyur seven years back and got involved with rubber cultivation there. Joel was a first year engineering student.

Joel has left behind parents, a brother and a sister.

After the news spread, a large number of people including chairman of Kasargod zilla panchayat standing committee, Harshad Vorkady, block panchayat vice president, Mamata Divakar, panchayat standing committee chairperson, Shobha Somappa, and others visited the residence of the family to pay last respects to the departed soul.
