Udupi, Aug 6: A Women's Association (Sthree Sanghatan) of St Francis Xavier church located at Udyavar near here was inaugurated on Sunday August 3.

This association aims at identifying the talents of the woman and to preserve the values and traditions of the Catholic community.

Fr Charles Noronha, parish priest of Udyavar, inaugurated the association and graced the occasion.

Leena Roche, president of Diocesan Catholic Council for Women, participated as the chief guest on the occasion. She stressed the need of creating awareness among women towards a better society. Godfrey D’Souza, vice-president of the parish council and Cynthia Dias, president of the Women's Association of Kallianpur varado were present on the dais.

Fr Melwin Lobo, assistant priest of the church, invoked the blessings. Shantha Fernandes, president of the association, welcomed the gathering. Hazel D’Lima, secretary of the association, presented the report of the first meeting and proposed vote of thanks. Eugene Machado compered the programme.
