Mangalore: Police Caning - DYFI Activists Granted Bail

Mangalore, Aug 7: DYFI and CPI (M) activists who were arrested on Monday August 4, for staging a protest before the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) building, have been granted bail on Wednesday August 6.

The court issued bail to Muneer Katipalla, DYFI district president as well as CPI (M) leaders Sathish Kumar, Yogish, Basheer, Pradeep, Dayanand, Rohit Kumar, Avinash, Padmanabha and Daniel Castelino on Wednesday while Yashwant Maroli was granted bail on Tuesday August 5.

Barke police arrested them following the caning incident after which they were remanded to judicial custody. More than 30 activists including six women were injured in the incident.

Police are on the lookout for 30 more activists who had participated in the protest and are now thought to be seeking anticipatory bail. Lawyers T Narayan Poojary, Ramachandra Babbukatte and Shashiraj Rao Kavoor, pleaded on behalf of the activists.
