Mangalore, Aug 7: The arecanut research and development foundation sponsored by the Central Arecanut and Cocoa Marketing and Processing Cooperative (Cammpco) Ltd, Puttur, will be organizing a two-day international conference on 'Future of areca plantation',from Saturday August 9.
This conference will be presided over by Dr D Veerendra Heggade, president of the foundation. Chief minister B S Yeddyurappa, will be addressing the gathering of representatives at 3.30 pm on Saturday.
Dr V S Acharya, state home minister, J Krishna Palemar, S K Bellubi, Mullakkara Ratnakaran, Kerala state minister and others will be in attendance.
The conference will focus on the prevailing situation of areca plantations across the world and their future, the arecanut market, and difficulties faced by areca farmers. It will also discuss ways to improve the market share, and value-added benefits.
Around 200 experts in areca plantation from all over the country and abroad have been invited to the conference which will be held at the Karnataka Bank auditorium, located at Kodialbail, here. Experts in related fields are also likely to attend the event.
