Bihar: Mob assaults, injects acid in man's eyes for eloping with employer's wife

Begusarai (Bihar), Feb 18 (PTI): A mob assaulted a man and injected acid in his eyes which left him blinded for allegedly eloping with his employer's wife following which a person has been arrested in the case, police said.

The assault took place at an eatery in Pipra Chowk late Friday night in which the man, a driver by profession, was left critically injured, Deputy Superintendent of Police B K Singh said.

The man, 30, a resident of Samastipur district, became blind after the incident, doctors attending him said.

In a statement before the police, the victim said he used to work as a tractor driver at Barauni village under Teghra police station and started an affair with his employer's wife.

On February 6, he and his paramour fled from the house following which her husband lodged a complaint with the police charging him with kidnapping his wife, the DSP said.

However, she came to Teghra on February 16 and recorded her statement in a local court that asked her husband, a farmer, to take her to his house.

It was not immediately known why she had returned and what she said in the court.

Her brother-in-law rang up the driver last evening claiming that she wanted to live with him and he should come to Teghra police station to take her back with him, the police official said.

Barely a kilometre from the police station, the driver was accosted by a group of around 20 people who took him to the eatery and severely assaulted him.

The DSP said they also injected acid in his eyes with a syringe.

They later dumped him near Hanuman Chowk under Bhagwanpur police station area of the district.

A passer-by admitted him to a hospital at Begusarai.

One person was arrested and the police were searching for other attackers, the DSP said.

Yes, the punishment is horrific, but justifiable.
As of now, there aren't any laws to uphold the social fabric or family values in our legal system. There are many of this kind of a man to lure married woman for sex, elope with them and abandon. The fate of the children is gone for a toss and the honour of the husband can never be returned.
To all those who stand for the woman's right to elope with the man of her desire, you may say i am a frog in the well, it is common among forward thinking people, but do it with decency. Apply for a divorce, get one mutually and walk away with anyone. Do not jeopardise the life and honour of the husband.

I just feel sad that only the man was given the punishment.

You assume that a woman is a cattle . she does not have any brain of taking resposibility for her actions.

''The fate of the children is gone for a toss and the honour of the husband can never be returned.''
Well you may be a type of person who values honor. Well... there is good thing about it, but do you know how many daughters are killed in our country for the sake of honor?

You are a frog in the well, and in a well that is going to dry up very soon. Do you know what would be result of that woman asking for divorce??? she would have been killed for ''honor''.

Yes he is a frog in a well; a well that will dry up very soon and send him into hibernation.

...........and then the rains will come and awaken him from his hibernation to start his croaking yet louder than ever.

Horrible to even image the pain the victim has suffered. Inhuman and barbaric practice is going free hand these days with no fear of law in our country.

This happens when our law is stringent only in books but not in action.

Oh God save us from all such miseries and provide guidance to mankind and put mercy in their heart. Ameen

@Dr. S. Kamath, you do not object when men are killed or maimed for the sake of cows. In fact you support it. People who slaughter cows, in 80% of cases do it for their hunger.
