Mysore, Aug 8: The Chamarajendra Zoological Garden of Mysore will soon get three Albino black bucks (white deer) from Ahmedabad zoo as part of the animal exchange programme.
In return, the Mysore zoo will donate a pair of cramp deer and a tiger to its Ahmedabad counterpart. The white deer are expected to arrive in a fortnight. Chief veterinarian Dr Nanjappa, who is leaving for Ahmedabad on Friday, told this website’s newspaper that it was the first time Mysore zoo was getting an opportunity to host Albinos.
Albino black bucks are a rare species found in the open plains of Northern India.
Cubs on display
Meanwhile, the two-month-old panther cubs, born to Catherina, were shifted to an enclosure for display.
The male and female cubs are under maternal care. With the cubs entry, the total leopard population in the zoo has increased to nine. Panther cubs were born in the zoo after a gap of 30 years.
Catherina is three-and-a-half-years-old and was hand-reared by zoo veterinarians after she was found near Nanjangud. The Mysore zoo hosts a total of more than 1,300 species of animals and birds.
