Udupi, Feb 20: A councilor thrashed a youth at Gundibail for questioning the construction of a road on his private land here on February 18.

Parkala resident Ganesh Acharya was the victim of the assault. Gundibail councilor R K Ramesh, his brother Prakash and a group of thirty men inflicted a deadly assault on Acharya on Gundibail main road.

Acharya had permitted the construction of a road on his land. He had requested R K Ramesh not to cut a tree on the land during the construction. But Ramesh got the tree felled without seeking the permission of Acharya. When Acharya confronted Ramesh about the same issue in the night on February 20, Ramesh, his brother Prakash and a group of about thirty people hurled abuses at Acharya and allegedly assaulted him.

Acharya who is seriously injured, is undergoing treatment at Ajjarkad district hospital. A case stands registered at Udupi city police station.
