Puttur, Aug 8: District Youth Congress president Bondala Jagannath Shetty has warned that the district Youth Congress will block the entry of ore-laden trucks into the district, if the district administration fails to regulate the illegal movement of the ore trucks on the national highways of the district within a week.
Speaking at a press conference here on Thursday August 7, he asked the district administration to rein in the unbridled movement of these trucks within seven days. If the administration fails to do so, the youth Congress will block these trucks from entering the district at Uppinangady and Mulky, he informed. He also alleged that the policemen and transport officials are hand in glove with the mining lords and helping them in the unregulated movement of these trucks.
Most of these trucks come into the district with excessive loads. Therefore, our highways have been damaged. More than half of the bridges and minor bridges have suffered damages due to the incessant movement of these trucks, and they might collapse at any time. Ore trucks are entirely responsible for the gross deterioration of the infrastructure in the district, he charged.
The officials have not been able to take any action against the trucks which are throwing rules and regulations to winds. Wide-spread corruption is helping the mining magnates. The district administration should immediately take law into its hands and restrict their movement during the day, to enable other vehicles to move about without hindrances, he demanded.
Youth Congress leader Ahsraf Bastikar, Puttur Block Congress Hemnath shetty and Krishnaprasad Alva were present at the press conference.
