New Delhi, Feb 23 (IANS): External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj here on Friday called on visiting Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and discussed ways to deepen the bilateral relationship.
"Picture speaks for itself!" External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Raveesh Kumar tweeted along with a picture of the leaders smiling warmly as they shook hands.
Kumar said Sushma Swaraj had a "warm meeting" with Trudeau "and discussed ways to strengthen and deepen our partnership".
Later in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Trudeau will hold a bilateral summit following which a number of agreements across multiple sectors are expected to be signed.
Earlier on Friday, Trudeau was accorded a ceremonial welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan where Modi greeted him with a hug putting to rest speculations about the government cold-shouldering the visiting dignitary ever since his arrival in India on Saturday on an eight-day visit.
Trudeau, his wife and three children have visited Agra, Ahmedabad, Mumbai and Amritsar since then.
The visit by Trudeau, who assumed office in November 2015, comes after Modi's visit to Canada in April earlier that year.
