Bantwal, Feb 28: After a lorry and a car got involved in head-on collision on Tuesday February 27, a person lost his life while five others including a child survived with injuries of varying degrees. The accident happened near Melkar on national highway 75 here.

The deceased has been identified as Nagabhushan (48), resident of Pavanje Haleangady. The injured are car driver, Jagadadi Ramaswamy (44), Manjushree (27), her two-year old son Manan, Krishnaraja Bhat (45) and Subrahmanya (55) from Mulky.

The family is said to have undertaken visit to the annual car festival of Lord Subrahmanya temple at Ramakunja. On their way back on Tuesday afternoon, a lorry which was coming from the direction of the town suddenly went out of the control of the driver and hit the car  coming from opposite direction and inflicted injuries on the people inside the car, sources stated.

The injured were rushed to a private hospital at Thumbe. Out of them, Nagabhushan, whose injuries were grave, was shifted to a private hospital in Mangaluru. Without responding to treatment, he breathed his last at the hospital later in the day. The other injured are out of danger.

Deputy superintendent of police, Srinivas, who was coming from the direction of Puttur due to official work, rushed to the help of injured persons. Police personnel from the town station visited the spot and took steps to clear the road for traffic. A case stands registered in Melkar traffic police station.
