Olympic champion Chalmers qualifies for Commonwealth Games


Canberra, Mar 2 (IANS): Olympic champion Kyle Chalmers has won his first 100 meters freestyle national championship at the Australian Swimming Trials.

Chalmers, who stunned the swimming world when he stormed home to win gold in the 100m freestyle at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games at 48.16 seconds to claim the national championship and qualify for the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast, Xinhua news agency reported on Friday.

Chalmers' performance was not without drama after he was the slowest qualifier for the final at 49.17 seconds.
