Mumbai, Aug 13: At least 6 people were killed and many injured when a portion of a 72 year old old building collapsed in the congested area of south Mumbai in the wee hours of Wednesday August 13 morning.
Datta Apartments, situated in the congested Bhindi Bazaar area of the city, collapsed at about 5.00 a.m. Fire officials said six people had been found dead but the toll may rise since more might be trapped under the debris.
The dead include two men, two women and two children. Rescue work is in full swing. There is a possibility of over 10 people trapped in the debris.
The incident comes even as the municipal corporation had issued warnings to over 500 buildings, declaring them dangerous in 2007.
The city is facing harsh rains for a few days now, disrupting normal life and weakening old structures like the above one.
