Rahul Gandhi breaks silence on Congress debacle in northeast, says ‘respect mandate’

New Delhi, Mar 5 (Zee News): Congress president Rahul Gandhi has finally broken his silence on the poll debacle in the Assembly elections in northeastern states of Tripura, Meghalaya and Nagaland. Taking to microblogging site Twitter, the Gandhi scion said that the “Congress party respects the mandate of the people of Tripura, Nagaland and Meghalaya”.

The Congress president further said that the leadership was committed to strengthening the party across northeast and winning back the trust of the people.

He tweeted, “The Congress party respects the mandate of the people of Tripura, Nagaland and Meghalaya. We are committed to strengthening our party across the North East and to winning back the trust of the people. My sincere thanks to each and every Congress worker who toiled for the party.”

Rahul Gandhi, who had gone to Italy to meet his 93-year-old grandmother during the Holi weekend was criticised by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for “abandoning party workers at a crucial time”.

Hitting out at the Congress chief, Union minister Giriraj Singh had said, "He is not a natural leader, he is a gift of circumstances. He was born to a queen. Once he disappeared for 56 days, today also he has gone. No leader leaves workers at such crucial time. He cannot handle stress."

The Congress did not fare well in the elections in the northeastern states. While it failed to get even a single seat in Tripura, the party also lost Meghalaya after governing the state for 10 years. Despite emerging as the single largest party in Meghalaya, the Congress faltered on gathering numbers for government formation in the state.

The BJP, on the other hand, performed exceptionally well. While it toppled Manik Sarkar-led Left Front government in Tripura, it also went on to secure the numbers for government formation in Meghalaya with the help of allies.

Failure is the stepping stone to success. Gracefully accepting the defeat paves the foundation for greater success. It is very difficult for a person to accept defeat. A defeated person in India, gives scores of reasons for the failure but Rahul is far above the scum in India. It shows his education which the blind bhakts feel as weakness. I am surprised at the comment of Bhandarkar whom I thought is a gentleman of high calibre! I too was a Modi fan but my eyes opened very fast and realised that I was a fool to vote for a murderer of Ghodra. Once a murderer always a murderer, you cannot change him and that is evident in India today. Please check the local news of Manipur on BJP success. BJP has started attacking innocent people, their houses and people who backed CPM are terrified to get out of the house. This is the outcome of a autocratic rule and we all feel grate about it. What have we become?

Who said MODI is a murderer in GODHRA ? you have any proof ? Don't you know the Apex court gave clean chit to both MODI and SHAH before 2014?there is no value for the comments of a person who doesn't respect Apex Court decision
So no use in arguing with you regarding MODI
Now regarding attack in Manipur for voting for CPM election was not held in MANIPUR this time it was in TRIPUR, MEGHALAYA & NAGALAND
So where is the question of Manipur ppl voting for CPM or BJP attacking ?
All created news and how you can beleive a news paper news and won't believe Apex Court

This should been eye opener for the congress party leadership. If congress wants to come back to power in Karnataka, they should show the door to all old leaders who are good for nothing and unwanted by people. If congress want to retain these useless leaders, they should contest and win election from their own constituency. Solely depending on the chief minister and his canteens will not help.
It is definitely time to get rid of the useless unwanted leaders.

Rahul Gandhi has always been speaking about the people''s mandate, but doesn''t seem to have understood which way the wind is blowing. The Cong have been reduced to just 'panchayat poll specialists'. I feel sad for the Cong supporters. Apparently Rahul, you were born to wipe congress off from India.. Usually a families biggest enemy is born in the family itself. There are numerous examples of that. You are one such. Keep rocking the congress boat your supporters shall cheer for you .

The NE had given the mandate on 3rd , now you are respecting them on 5th 2.00 pm. Either u r ignorant about the people verdict or u r not serious about that. Both r very dangerous for the country,If congress comes to power under ur leadership. See thats not ur problem, there are some people in this country they born with slavery mentality and they will die with that and they are those who supporting u to become the pm. You are a major let down for all the Congi supporters!! With such arrogance and performance , Karnataka that was almost on the Cong side is now is evenly balanced.

Rahul did not promise 56 inch, but his words are not a lip service.
Even in the midst of difficulties he respects his family. the nation leader promised 56 inch abandoned his own family.

A man do not know how to build his own HOME, how can he build a NATION.
A man knows to receive Taxes, makes our banks & pocket & empty, what he will know his promises..
    SAD, we elected him.

Yes and though the party foundation was built under the guidance of Nehru and Gandhi family. It is still called “CONGRESS “. Unlike BJP which is replaced with Modi. I hope the PM has no plans to change the party name to MJP. Modi Janata party. He likes to take the credit for all.

Decency in the face of adversity, hostile, undemocratic and unethical opponents is the sign of a mature and strong leader in the making.
Accepting defeat gracefully is good if the winner's victory is free of cheating. Respect has to be earned through fair and just means. Just winning does not automatically entitle one to respect. How has one obtained victory matters.
Should an athlete who loses the first place to another athlete who has doped accept defeat gracefully ?

Under RG leadership who is the president of congress party, congress was not able to win even a single seat in Tripura. Still congress leaders are in the good mood to praise RG and his effort. Ultimately it is the voter who choose their leaders hence congress high command should stop fooling supporters claiming moral victory, respect mandate etc. Congress is getting defeated within.

Before it gets washed out from completely , strategy should be built as to how to impress the voters, at least copy BJP strategy. Congress should listen to supporters instead of taking their own decision.
