Mangaluru, Mar 6: St Aloysius BEd College, a premier institute of teacher training of the city reopened for its twelfth batch of trainees. It is a unit of the Mangalore Jesuit Educational Society which has a legacy of 138 years in education.
Fr John Lang Bosco, counsellor and finance officer, St Aloysius PU College was the chief guest of the occasion. Fr John Lang highlighted the core values of Jesuit Education, namely, compassion, commitment, creativity, character and collaboration. He explained the significance of these values in Teachers and Students lives in forming a peaceful and harmonious society. Education means all-round development which envelops the development of physical, intellectual, spiritual, emotional and vocational. Teachers must be keen observers in identifying their students’ abilities and they must guide them in the area they are good with, he added.
Dr Farita Viegas, principal of the college, presented an overview of the curriculum and the co-curricular activities of two year BEd course. She emphasized the need of punctuality, commitment and positive attitude in pursuing the course.
Liffin Saldanha, alumnae (2011-12) of the college shared her experience with new batch of students. She said BEd is not just a course which helps one to become a teacher, but it is an opportunity to identify the strengths and the weaknesses of one and thereby construct personality.
Delna Lobo, vice-principal, delivered the welcome address. Amith and team (second year BEd) invoked God’s blessings. Sandhya (lecturer) compered the programme. Joshna Bolar (convenor) organized the programme. The students were accompanied by their parents/guardians. The function ended with the college anthem.
