Sri Lanka declares state of emergency after Buddhist-Muslim clash

Colombo, Mar 6 (Reuters): Sri Lanka has declared a state of emergency for 10 days to rein in the spread of communal violence, a government spokesman said on Tuesday, a day after Buddhists and Muslims clashed in the Indian Ocean island's central district of Kandy.
Tension has been growing between the two communities in Sri Lanka over the past year, with some hardline Buddhist groups accusing Muslims of forcing people to convert to Islam and vandalising Buddhist archaeological sites.

Some Buddhist nationalist have also protested against the presence in Sri Lanka of Muslim Rohingya asylum-seekers from mostly Buddhist Myanmar, where Buddhist nationalism has also been on the rise. "At a special cabinet meeting, it was decided to declare a state of emergency for 10 days to prevent the spread of communal riots to other parts of the country," the spokesman, Dayasiri Jayasekara, told Reuters.

"It was also decided to take stern action against people who are instigating violence through Facebook," he added, referring to postings on social media.

The government sent troops and elite police to Kandy after a mob set fire to a Muslim-owned shop, imposing a curfew there on Monday to prevent clashes between majority Sinhalese Buddhists and minority Muslims.

If this is true what you pointed, then show me any one country in this world where Muslims are Majority, and they attacking minority. Other majority religion people attacking Minority Muslims there is limit for tolerance. When minorities retaliate you people start to cry foul. This is reality.

Muslims are peace loving only when they are minorities. The trouble begins when their population touches 40%. Look at any 'sensivite areas' and see who is the most populated there.

Its only 10% and trouble started. Now you will understand why BJP/RSS cries of the problem where population is more than 20% in states like UP, West bengal, Kerala etc. Karnataka is also nearly 20%, just watch for that.

Its wrong to point out whole community when the clash occur. Now Budhists also getting defamed like us muslims.,just because some fanatics are voilent and gone for destruction.

Myanmar bought lot of bad names to Budhists.Anything nowadays happens especially communal clash is the root cause of shakuni politics ,not the religion.
