Kundapur, Mar 7: Annappa Kharvi (60), a prominent businessman trading in fish and resident of Uppunda in the taluk passed away in a head-on collision between a tanker and car in which he and his family were travelling on Tuesday March 6 afternoon. The accident took place on national highway 66 near Bangaramakki, Mavinakatte in Bhatkal taluk on Tuesday March 6 afternoon.

In this accident, nine persons including five children and tanker driver were injured.

Driver of the car, Subrahmanya Kharvi (30), Pushpalata,Prabhakar Kharvi (45), Nagaveni Kharvi (33), Annappa's wife, Mukambu Kharvi (55), children, Gopalraj, Neha, Rejeshwari Suprasad and tanker driver,whose name is not known, were injured. All of them stand admitted into a hospital at Manipal. It is said that the condition of Subrahmanya is serious and he is battling for his life.

Annappa Kharvi had been to Sirsi to take part in the annual Marikamba festival there along with his family. The entourage was returning to their native place when the accident happened a few kilometres away from their place. The car was badly mangled in the accident, and the tanker fell by its side. As there was danger of oil spilling out of the tanker and endangering lies and environment, fire brigade rushed to the spot and took precautionary measures.

A case about the accident was registered at Murudeshwar police station.
