Ahmedabad, Mar 7 (DHNS): VHP leader Pravin Togadia had a close shave on Wednesday when his car was hit by a truck.
Togadia, who had reached Kamrej in Surat on Wednesday morning, saw a speeding truck hit the car he was seated in from behind and drag his vehicle over some distance.
The leader has sought an independent probe into the accident stating that it could be a conspiracy of attack on his life.
"Normally when a vehicle meets with an accident, they immediately apply brakes but here the truck driver after hitting the car, dragged it for few feet and stopped only when my car hit the divider and got stuck. He kept on coming over and did not apply brakes," Togadia later told mediapersons, hinting that there appeared to be a conspiracy of an attempt on his life.
Togadia, who has Z+ security, generally travels with a pilot car in front of his vehicle and an escort vehicle behind and besides his vehicle.
However, the escort cars were not present on Wednesday when Togadia met with the accident.
"It seems someone in the administrative hierarchy issued incomplete instructions to local administration. The written instructions for providing only a pilot car and not the other escort cars. My question is that who issued such an incomplete instructions and why? This has never happened till date," Togadia said.
"Today's (Wednesday's) incident also proves that it is wrong to believe that there is no danger to lives of people with Z+ security," he added.
Togadia had been claiming a threat to his life for some time now.
He had gone missing from Ahmedabad on the morning of January 15 this year, after receiving an anonymous call informing him that a team of police personnel from Rajasthan was in the city to arrest him.
Even then, he had expressed apprehension that he would be killed in a fake encounter.
The VHP leader was later found in Kotarpur area en route to Ahmedabad airport late in the evening from where he was taken to a private hospital in a semi-conscious state, with doctors attending on him stating that he was suffering from hypoglycaemia.
Togadia has now sought an independent probe in to the accident. However, there has been no word from the state government or local authorities as yet.
