S.Korean President's envoys head to US

Seoul, Mar 8 (IANS): South Korean President Moon Jae-in's envoys who had visited North Korea earlier this week, left for Washington on Thursday to explain the outcome of their visit.

Chung Eui-yong, head of the National Security Office, has quoted North Korean leader Kim Jong-un as saying that Pyongyang was willing to suspend all its military provocations, including ballistic missile tests, as long as US-North Korea dialogue was in progress, reports Yonhap News Agency.

Suh Hoon, the chief of South Korea's spy agency, the National Intelligence Service is also accompanying Chung on the trip.

Chung will directly explain the outcome of his Pyongyang trip to the highest U.S. officials during his three-day visit to Washington, according to an official from the presidential office.

He is expected to meet US National Security Advisor Herbert McMaster and Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.

The two envoys will also visit China, Japan and Russia to inform them of the outcome of their North Korea trip.

Both Washington and Pyongyang have expressed their willingness to talk, but the US is still seen to be sceptical about the North's intentions.

Following the two-day trip by the special envoys to North Korea, US President Donald Trump said the North appeared to be "sincere".
