Mumbai: Rupee Weakens by 23 Paise

Mumbai, Aug 16: The rupee shed another 23 paise at 42.82/84, against the greenback on Thursday as oil refiners bought dollars after global crude oil prices firmed up amid sliding equity markets and stronger dollar overseas.

Forex Rates

At the forex market, the domestic currency resumed weak at 42.82/84 a dollar from its last close of 42.64/65 a dollar and later drifted lower to 42.87/88 a dollar in the late morning deals.

Forex dealers said oil companies were seen taking up dollar positions in the face of dwindling supplies as crude oil prices turned stronger in world markets. Global crude oil prices traded at near $117 a barrel in Asian trade this morning.
