Shocking ‘Punish a Muslim Day’ letters in UK urge physical, arson attacks

London, Mar 11 (PTI): Britain’s counter-terrorism officers are investigating a series of anti-Muslim letters circulated across the country calling for people to participate in a “Punish a Muslim Day” on April 3.

Residents in London, Yorkshire and the Midlands regions of England have reported receiving the letters branded as “malicious correspondence” by police.

West Yorkshire Police said the investigation into the instances was being coordinated by the UK’s North East Counter Terrorism Unit (NECTU) and enquiries were going on.

“What I want to do is to reassure the communities of West Yorkshire that these communications are being taken extremely seriously. We understand that they may have caused concern and upset to people, especially the more vulnerable members of society,” said Assistant Chief Constable Angela Williams of West Yorkshire Police said.

“Public safety remains our priority and I would urge our communities to be vigilant but not frightened,” she added.

Counter-terrorism police are treating the letters as a possible hate crime.

Images of the A4 note, which contains a list of violent acts alongside a number of claims of why they were executed, have been widely shared online.

The note incites verbal abuse and assaults on Muslims, as well as attacks on mosques. It asks people to carry out violent acts including verbal abuse, removing a woman’s hijab or head-scarf, physical assault and using acid as a weapon. These were ranked using a points-based system, with the letter stating, “There will be rewards based on action taken”.

Police said it had a couple of letters that will undergo analysis in an attempt to determine their origin.

Tell MAMA [Measuring Anti-Muslim Attacks], a project that monitors Islamaphobic hate crimes in the UK, said a photo of an envelope suggested at least one of the notes was dealt with at a Sheffield sorting office.

“This has caused quite a lot of fear within the community. They are asking if they are safe, if their children are safe to play outdoors. We have told them to keep calm,” said Iman Atta from Tell MAMA.

The group said it had received reports of people in Bradford, Leicester, London, Cardiff and Sheffield receiving the letters.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said it was not yet clear whether any criminal allegations relating to the letters had been reported in London.

For every action there is a reaction. This is an unfortunate backlash of what happened in the UK and the rest of Europe in the recent past.

    Muslims not very polygamous
But the numbers indicate that polygamy is not really that widespread among Indian Muslims.
Exact data on the subject is hard to come by, primarily because the 1961 census was the last one to look at marriages by religion and community. That survey, in fact, found that incidence of polygamy was the least among Muslims, with just 5.7% of the community likely to practice it. Hindus actually had a higher incidence rate of polygamy, at 5.8%, although other communities, including Buddhists and Jains, were proportionally even more likely to practice polygamy. At the top were tribals, 15.25% of whom were polygamous.

Above is from one news report.

In the past couple of years, I have worked with multiple companies with Mx$lim colleagues here in Australia. I’ve yet to come across a colleague whose wife is either working or has the intention to work. They think that bleeding the social security (living on dole money) and cursing the Host country is their birth right.

Britain can't afford another 'Yugoslavia' as it parting away from European Union. The nation host all ethnicity as their nationals who made UK as their home. Any communal violence or ethnic violence have short time goals. It's impact are long term which is difficult go get away.
Only nation like India, Myanmar and Sri Lanka have not learned from the colonial past of 'Divide and rule' policies.
I hope UK is capable of handling this issue more seriously and personally request Queen to step into to maintain long lasting peace.

Why do you think that "Muslims are the target everywhere" when by and large all other people of diverse faiths live largely in peace and harmony?

There could be only one thing either you are good and the world is bad OR you are bad and the world is good? You tell me what it is.

They’re so peaceful that they’ve started a war with rest of the world which could snowball into a Third World War eventually. So more numbers mean more deaths and casualties. My free advice is produce less.

who was your maths teacher. it is Christianity the fastest and largest religion. the figures given by pew and others on the internet are manipulated mostly by the GCC countries to attract more people.
any ways I believe that Atheism is on the rise around the world, A growing number of people, millions worldwide, say they believe that life definitively ends at death.

While atheists certainly are not the majority, could it be that these figures are a harbinger of things to come? Assuming global trends continue might religion someday disappear entirely?
