Bantwal, Mar 12: Thieves entered a house at Neerbail located between Manchi and Bolantoor in the taluk during the early hours on Sunday March 11 and took away cash and gold ornaments valued at Rs 4.38 lac.

The house was occupied by it's owner, Shankar Nayak, who happens to be a progressive farmer, and who also operates a poultry farm, and his wife. Nayak's wife, after getting up in the morning, found that the rear door of the house was open. Closer verification revealed that the house is targetted by burglars.

The thieves apparently entered the house by sliding the inside bolt of the rear door by inserting their hands through the nearby window. They took away Rs 50,000 kept inside an almirah, and gold ornaments worth Rs 3.88 lac.

Additional superintendent of police, Sajith and police inspector, Prakash, led a team to the spot on Sunday morning, finger print experts and sniffer dogs also surveyed the area and collected the clues. Rural station house officer, M Prasanna, registered a case.
