Mangaluru, Mar 14: The annual Students’ Day of BDPS Computer Education, Indian Computer Academy and Veta Pumpwell centers was jointly held recently at Golden Jubilee Hall of Kerala Samajam Complex, K S Rao Road here.
U T Khader, minister for Food and Civil supplies inaugurated the programme. In his inaugural speech he praised the contribution of BDPS Group of Institutions which has been operating since three decades in Mangaluru offering computer and technical courses. He also hailed the growth of Indian Computer Academy which was inaugurated by him in 2005 when he was secretary of Bharathiya Sevadala. He also highlighted the importance of computer awareness, English communication in this competitive world.
Hitesh Thadani, director of BDPS, Mumbai presided over the function and thanked the well-wishers, students and parents for their support since three decades.
Dayananda Kateel, vice-principal of Sharada Vidyalaya praised the students for their performance and gave credit to the management for giving a platform for cultural and sports achievements in their Institution.
T K Rajan, president of Kerala Samajam, Mangaluru, P K S Pillai, vice-chairman III of Karnataka Nair Service Society, Bengaluru, Venkatesh Pai, architect and proprietor of Pailands Corporation and Abraham Verghese, correspondent of St George Pre-University College, Nellyady were the guests of honour.
The management felicitated Harekala Hajabba, an orange seller by profession who started a school in a remote village of Harekala for poor students and developed it as a full-fledged high school despite being an illiterate. All present praised the effort of Hajabba who is also known as Akshara Santa (saint of letters). He is also a role model for the young generation and his life story has been introduced in the curriculum of two universities in Karnataka including Mangalore University.
Prizes were distributed to the winners of sports and cultural competition.
Sajitha M Nair, director of Indian Computer Academy and Veta Pumpwell centre was present. Murali H, director-operations BDPS Group of Institutions introduced the guests and welcomed the gathering. Chaitra, faculty, Veta Pumpwell Centre rendered the vote of thanks. Ajith Kumar S compered the programme.
It was followed by a cultural programme by students of BDPS, ICA and Veta Pumpwell and lunch.
