Universidad beat Vasco in Copa Libertadores tie

Rio de Janeiro, Mar 14 (IANS): A late goal from former Chile under-20 midfielder Angelo Araos handed Universidad de Chile a 1-0 victory over Brazil's Vasco da Gama in their Copa Libertadores group match here.

The 21-year-old cleverly used his body to wrong-foot his opponent after a Jean Beausejour throw-in before calmly slotting a low shot past goalkeeper Martin Silva on Tuesday, reports Xinhua news agency.

In the Paraguayan capital Asuncion, hosts Cerro Porteno overcame Uruguay's Defensor 2-1 thanks to a brace from Diego Churin.

The 28-year-old forward gave his team the lead in the ninth minute but Carlos Benavides equalised just after half-time.

Churin struck the winner in the 96th minute when he latched onto a Santiago Arzamendia through ball and fired into the top corner.

Paraguay's Libertad beat Argentine side Atletico Tucuman at home after second-half goals from Santiago Salcedo and Rodrigo Alborno.
