Muradnagar, Mar 14 (Navbharat Times): A groom had to pay heavily for climbing the ‘jaymala’ stage in a drunken state.

When the matter was brought to the knowledge of bride, she refused to marry him. She further alleged groom's friends of molesting her.

The bride’s family created a ruckus after she made these allegations and held all baraatis into hostage. Later the police intervened, and a complaint was registered against groom and his father, who were then arrested.

The incident took place in Ganga Vihaar Colony near Jalalpur road, where a man had fixed his daughter's alliance with Pawan Verma of Gautam Buddh Nagar. Pawan works in defence services.

The wedding was to be solemnized on March 12. While the ‘jaymala’ ceremony was going on, at around 11:30 pm, two of the groom's friends climbed the stage and sat on the chairs reserved for couple. While everyone was blessing the couple, groom’s friends inappropriately touched the bride.

The bride immediately informed the groom about it, but he did not pay attention. He then abused her and asked her to keep quiet. That’s when the bride realized that he was drunk.

Failing to get any response from her husband-to-be, she narrated the entire episode to her family members. The groom stopped her and threatened to make her “obscene” photos viral. Upon hearing this, relatives from bride’s side got enraged and a scuffle broke out between them and groom’s family.

While the entire groom side was kept hostage inside the marriage venue, hundreds of people from bride’s side reached police station along with Hindu Yuva Vaahini (HYV) district president Prashant Gupta.
The bride’s family accuse police of trying to shield culprits by not registering their complaint under proper sections. Under pressure from HYV, police assured bride’s family of tougher and proper action. They registered an FIR groom’s friends and took them in custody.
