In mistaken identity, salesman shot at

Ghaziabad, Mar 21 (IANS): Gunmen on Wednesday shot and wounded a salesman at a medical store in Sahibabad after mistaking him to be a man with whom they had a land dispute, police said.

The incident occurred in the afternoon at Dev Medical Store at the GDA Market at Lajpat Nagar when two assailants armed with pistols barged into the medical store.

They asked the salesman his name. Before he could answer, they opened fire, wounding him. He was rushed to a hospital.

The victim was identified as Babloo Bhati. Locals said the gunmen wanted to kill a Mudit alias Monu Bhati over a land dispute. But they shot the wrong man by mistake and fled from there.

The police were told that the attackers fired at least six more shots before escaping.

The injured man was later shifted to Delhi with three bullet injuries.

"Let him gain consciousness. Only then we can confirm whether they targeted him or is it a case of mistaken identity," said Assistant Superintendent of Police Anoop Kumar Singh.
