Media Release

Mangaluru, Mar 26: As a worker friendly initiative, MRPL has mandated all the contract agencies who are working with MRPL to cover their workers under Group Term Life Insurance (GTLI) of Rs 10 lac each. The insurance covers 24/7 for both natural and accidental death. This was made compulsory with effect from October 2016 as a safety net for the contract workers working in MRPL.

This has come as a saviour for the family of a contract worker who unfortunately met with an untimely death. Vishwanath was employed as Cook in CISF Bachelors Mess, in CISF Township under a contractor. He had passed away on November 23, 2017 by heart failure due to low BP. As he was covered under the insurance scheme mandated by MRPL, his family is receiving the insurance amount. This is the first case where the insurance benefit of Rs 10 lac was transferred to the family of a contract worker through GTLI scheme in MRPL providing financial support to the family.

A cheque of Rs 10 lac was handed over to the spouse of late Vishwanath by H Kumar, managing director, MRPL in the presence of other directors. The office bearers of MRPL employees union, office bearers of MRPL Karmachari Sangha and senior management personnel were present during the occasion.
