IDBI Bank discloses Rs 772 crore fraud, shares fall 3.5%

Vijayawada/Hyderabad, Mar 29 (Reuters): IDBI Bank Ltd has announced that fraudulent loans of Rs 772 crore ($118.8 million) were issued from five of its branches in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, sending its shares lower on Wednesday.

Some of the loans, which were issued during fiscal years 2009-2013 for fish farming businesses, were obtained against fake lease documents of non-existent fish ponds and by inflating the value of collateral, the company said.

The company found major lapses in processing and disbursing the loans by two of its officials. The lender dismissed one of the officials, while the other official had already retired, it said.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), has registered cases for two of the five complaints, relating to branches at Basheerbagh and Guntur, the company said.

The bank said earlier on Tuesday it initiated a quality assurance audit, expected to be completed by April.

At 11.50am, IDBI shares were trading 1.90% at Rs74.80 on BSE, while the Sensex was down 0.41% at 33,038.07 points. Shares fell as much as 3.5% to Rs73.6 in early trades.

All those who underline that loans were given in 2009-2013
please note-problem is not in loans given its common practice of banks.
Loans had to be recovered which has failed in next years.
Also Amounts get inflated when loans are rolled over instead of recovery

    Hemanth,

Still trying to grab the last straw ???

Even if the loan was given before 2011, 12, 13 or 14, what did the ruling government's able economist FM do for four years ? Why did he not give any consideration to the letter sent to him and his various departments informing about the PNB mismanagement ?

Tell me, if loan was given for gain by the govt before 2014, didn't the new party that came to ruling after 2014 mint the honey that the previous govt you say it did ? What do you think, the nation is full of fools - to be believing even after the scams rolled out one after the other - that all what is happening is done by the previous govt ?

These days a process has to be completed to find out if a loan is availed (without your knowledge) on your property, before its put out for sale (or somebody prepares for its purchase). When we were selling off one of our property, the consultant set out on the process which we found unnecessary because we had the original docs with us. He laughed aloud and said, "you don't know - even when you hold the original docs, somebody may have obtained duplicate of them and got a loan already"

We were indeed shocked because such practice does happen. All those fraudulent bank scams may have some or the other nature of cheating in them.

    Just be aware !

Keeping at home and having a dog in the house is more trustworthy than a man who humbled to be a watchman but tore open the coffers and sent it off in huge bags with Mallyas and Modis.

The man who promised to be bringing money hoarded abroad, instead looted it more. Made the currency we had in our hands, equal to raddi !

If there is any word beyond 'disgust' please let me know because that is exactly what I have for this man !
