Doha: MCC's Independence Day Presentation Rekindle Spirit of Patriotism

Media Release

Doha, Aug 25: August 15, the day India gained Independence is a day which kindles in the spirit of patriotism and brotherhood towards fellow Indians. To commemorate the 61st Independence Day, the Indian Culture Center (ICC) under the aegis of Indian Embassy organized a Cultural Fiesta on Friday August 22 at the Doha Cinema.

The members of the Mangalore Cricket Club presented a dance to the tune of Bankimchandra Chattopadhyay’s national song of India. The dance was choreographed to a rendition of this song by Konkan Kogul Wilfy Rebimbus. The song was aptly selected by MCC cultural secretary Reena Castelino and tastefully choreographed by Nancy Pereira and Celia D'Souza.

While the dance helped showcase the abundant talent of the members of Mangalore Cricket Club to the expatriate Indian community, the camaraderie and the bonhomie shared by the participants was truly an unforgettable experience in the true spirit of team work and brotherhood.

The men sporting the Indian look in white kurta pyjamas were Rupert Lobo, Edward D'Souza, Florent D'Souza, Sheldon Mendonsa, Lovlin Pinto, Naveen Goveas and Prashanth D'Silva. The gorgeous women in orange and green kurtas teamed with white Patiala pants were Melinda Fernandes, Clara Castelino, Cybil D'Souza, Anusha D'Souza, Laveena D’souza, Joyce Alvares and Wilma Pinto. Eric Pinto was the proud bearer of  the National Flag. Resplendent in red, representing Mother India was Vanessa Shingare. Dressed in their best ethnic outfits and joyfully waving the tricolor were, Elroy Pinto, Reona Lobo, Ashleyn Castelino, Delwia Lobo, Joshua Pinto and Rhea Alvares.

The success of the show was only possible due to hard work of the troupe who got together regularly despite other engagements for the practice sessions. The ever gregarious Eric and Lorna Pinto opened the doors of their home to make the practice sessions possible.  More often than not the success of a show is due to the hard work of those back stage and that was ably handled by Reena, Nancy, Celia and Lorna. The whole team looks forward to putting up another such stellar performance and perhaps is just waiting for that to happen.
