Air India privatisation: Subramanian Swamy attacks own govt

New Delhi, Apr 1 (Agencies): In yet another open revolt against his own government, Bharatiya Janata Party MP Subramanian Swamy on Saturday said that he will file a “private criminal law complaint” against the proposed sale of Air India.

Earlier this week, the Narendra Modi government unveiled plans to sell up to 76 per cent stake in debt-laden Air India and transfer its management control to private players as a strategic disinvestment process.

Hitting out at the government’s plan, Swamy said, “The proposed sale of Air India is potentially another scam in the making. Selling family silver is not divestment. I am watching who is doing what and will, if I see culpability, file a private criminal law complaint.”

Last year, as the plans to disinvest Air India gathered steam, the Rajya Sabha MP had wondered why the airline need to be sold as its flights are occupied.

Air India, which has more than Rs 52,000 crore debt burden, is surviving on a Rs 30,000 crore bailout package extended by the previous UPA government in 2012.

Air India is not an issue! What about money and time of the tax payers wasted on discussing religion, caste, cattle, election campaigns, instead of discussing people problems & solutions, healthcare, education, job creation etc. Indian chose the current government based on " Nothing happened in the past 60 years of Indian democracy, and the result "Indians experienced within four years everything that did not not happened in those sixty years"!
