Raichur, Apr 4: In a tragic incident that is reported from Ikoor village in Vadigera taluk of Krishna river basin, a woman was devoured by a crocodile on Tuesday, April 3.

The woman was crossing the river from the route of Medaragala village in Devadurga taluk while a crocodile which suddenly appeared in the water, grabbed and took her away. Women who were washing the clothes on the bank of the river, saw this happening and reported the same to the villagers.

Mahadevappa Diddimani, police sub-inspector of Vadigera police station, visited the spot and investigated the matter. An operation is on to locate the body of the deceased woman.

Of late, crocodiles have increased in numbers in Krishna river basin. During summer when the level of water goes down, they are seen on the banks of the river. Last year, a shepherd was taken away by a crocodile in Tumkur village. It may be recalled that earlier, a youth was also severely injured by the blow given by a crocodile on the banks of Krishna river at Bendebembaliya.
