Mangalore: Gang Attack Two - Bantwal, Bajpe Tense

Bantwal, Aug 28: Two youth were assaulted with lethal weapons at B C Road and Bajpe on the night of Wednesday, August 27. The situation turned tense at both the locations, after the news of the incident spread.
Bhaskar(35) from Bantwal and Anil(30) from Bajpe were targetted by miscreants. Both have been admitted to a Mangalore hospital. Security has been beefed up in both the places.
A gang of mischief mongers attacked tailor Bhaskar from Parlia at B C Road Kaikamba with swords and wounded him grievously. The region was experiencing power cut when the incident occured.
The gang members hit Bhaskar when he was closing the doors of his shop, from behind. They are said to have arrived in rickshaw and a motor bike. It is said, when the people intercepted a rickshaw at B C Road later on suspicion, the occupants got down and immediately fled in the accompanying motor bike.
Tension mounted at B C Road immediately after the incident, and sporadic incidents of stone pelting at shops occured. At about 10.30 pm, the policemen resorted to caning to disperse the crowds that had gathered in the town.
In charge Dy SP Manjunath Kavari has informed, that a team has been formed to nab the culprits. Karnataka State Reserve Police, district armed police and fire brigade have been summoned to manage the situation. Inspector General of Police A M Prasad and superintendent of police Sateesh Kumar visited the spot.
Anil, who was returning home at night after attending to his work at the Bajpe airport on his motor bike, was stopped by a gang and assaulted. The incident occured at the Old Convent Road. One of the miscreants reportedly hit him with a rod while the other used sickle against him. The attackers are said to be belonging to Bajpe region.
Taking precautionary measures in the backdrop of these incidents, the police have tightened vigil across Dakshina Kannada district. Night patrolalling has been intensified.
Additional police were immediately deployed after the incident. The policemen are taking every possible step to ensure that no untoward incidents occur as a backlash of these assaults.
