Lucknow, Apr 12: A Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe has been ordered into Unnao rape and custodial death involving a BJP lawmaker here on April 11.
The case has been handed over to the CBI hours after the BJP leader and his supporters indulged in scuffle with media persons on Wednesday night. The decision was taken after a special investigation team, set up by the state government, found serious lapses not just by the police but also doctors in Unnao. An FIR has been registered against rape accused BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar too.
The MLA while speaking to the media persons claimed innocense in the case and refused to surrender to police on Wednesday. Though he visited the office of Senior Superintendent of Police Lucknow late on Wednesday night he walked away half-an-hour later. During the scuffle between him and the media persons, he said, “Aap (media) jahan kaho wahin chalen. Apke channel mai chal kar baithen. Mai channel ke saathiyon ke kehne se yaha aaya hoon. Channel ke saathi jahan par kahenge wahan chaloonga. Namaste (I am ready to go wherever media asks. I can come on your channel also. I have come here at the behest of friends from channels.),” said Sengar while speaking to media persons.
ADGP Lucknow Zone Rajiv Krishna has already submitted the preliminary report of the case. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath whoever is guilty in the case would not be spared.
The probe had revealed that the father of the victim who died in the police custody had suffered 18 internal injuries. The victim had been trying to get the police to act against the lawmaker since June last year, appeared to give up hopes on Sunday and reached Yogi Adityanath's residence to commit suicide. The girl alleged that her 55-year-old father was thrashed by the lawmaker's brother Atul Singh and arrested by the police because he was still trying to pursue the case.
The father, brought to the hospital from jail, died on Monday, triggering massive outrage against the way the police had tried to shield the lawmaker's brother. Atul Singh was finally arrested on Tuesday after it emerged how the police had tried to protect him, keeping his name from the police complaint though the victim had named him too.
BJP lawmaker Kuldeep Singh Sengar has been charged under provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) for raping the 16-year-old girl from Uttar Pradesh's Unnao.
