Probe points to cow slaughter angle in rape-murder of 8-year-old girl in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua

Jammu, Apr 12 (Zee News): The crime branch of Jammu and Kashmir has recorded statements of 22 witnesses in connection with the rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl in Kathua is Jammu and Kashmir. As per the findings of the investigation, the motive of the crime was to drive away Bakarwal community.

The investigators have found that suspicion of cow slaughter by the Bakarwal community was one of the reasons leading to the brutal assault on the minor girl. Two charge sheets were filed against eight accused under various sections of the Ranbir Penal Code (equivalent of IPC) related to rape, illegal confinement, destruction of evidence and criminal conspiracy. The accused are Sanjhi Ram, his son Vishal, special police officers Deepak Khajuria and Surender Verma, head constable Tilak Raj, sub-inspector Anand Dutta, civilian Parvesh Kumar, and Sanjhi Ram's minor nephew.

The chargesheet filed reveals that a particular community had a general impression that the Bakarwals indulge in cow slaughter and drug trafficking, which led to hatred and made the culprits commit the crime.

The abduction, rape and killing of the girl, hailing from Muslim nomad community 'Bakerwal', was part of a carefully planned strategy to remove the minority community from the area, reveals a 15-page charge sheet filed by the Jammu and Kashmir Police's crime branch in the chief judicial magistrate's court here on Monday.

Prime accused Sanjhi Ram, according to the findings of the investigation, always motivated the members of his community in the area to not provide land for grazing or any other kind of assistance. He even made attempts to stall the selling of land by one Harnam Singh to a member of the Bakarwal community.

According to the chargesheet, Sanjhi Ram, with the help of ex- Sarpanch of Kootah and Rasana area, stopped the payment on account of installation of telephone towers in his land through the tehsildar concerned, claiming that the land in question was a state land. Harnam Singh approached the High court and got the impugned order of Tehsildar quashed.

Another accused Vishal, who is pursuing B Sc in Agriculture at a college in Meerut in Uttar Pradesh, had returned to his village after he was informed by his relative, Shubam Sangra alias ?Chuboo? about the kidnapping of the girl telephonically on January 11 and asked him to return in case ?he wanted to satisfy his lust?, the charge sheet presented by the crime branch in the court said.

On January 12, the investigators said that Vishal, another accused in the case, reached Rassana after which he raped the girl along with five others, besides helping in disposing of the body on January 17 after she was killed.

Many in the village had claimed that Vishal had appeared in an examination in Meerut and showed the attendance sheet allegedly bearing his signatures. The crime branch sent the attendance sheet for forensic examination and it was found that the signatures had been forged.

"We identified three students but all were already in custody over some medical scam in one of the colleges in Meerut. We will take their custody later," the official said.

In the charge sheet, the crime branch said "in the course of investigation, it transpired that the accused Vishal actively took part in the rape-and-murder of the victim, has tried to create an alibi by resorting to manipulation of records and creation of false evidence with the connivance and assistance of his father and relative Kishore, chairman of the college R P Singh and some other employees of a university in Meerut who as per the inputs have received huge amount as a kickback from Sanjhi Ram".

It said the investigation also showed that on the following day, the juvenile was apprehended and taken to police station for questioning, Sanjhi Ram visited him and directed him not to disclose the involvement of his son and promised him that he would get him cleared from the charges at the earliest.

It is shoking that the kidnap, confinement, sedation and gang rape of just 8 year old girl child inside a temple for 8 days by at lest 7 people, including by 2 cops, in Kathua, Jammu. On 8th day she was brutally murdered.

The affluent people and lawyers of Jammu took out a morcha with Tiranga in hand and shouting "Bharat Mata ki Jai" in support of the accused rapists as entire world was watching.

It seems one who gave the slogan 'beti bachao' has lost his voice and also power. No one knows who is running the government. Our country is already being called 'Rapistan'

This issue has.diferent versions depending on which media you get it from.
International media do not mention cow at all. So in my opinion this cow angle is a concotted story. The real issue is the land.
People who don't condemn and are silent on the crime against humanity are reponible for this henious crimes to occur and recur.
The so called custodians of culture are more akin to the kourava clan. Reminds me if the rakshasas of our puranahs.

    @Robert,

The real issue was that there are there are certain houses belonging to Brahmin community nearby this Nomadic Shepherd community. So this priest Sanji Ram planted and demonstrated this filthy and inhumane idea with the intention to instill fear and drive the nomadic tribe out of the region.

The irony is that some affiliates of SANSKARI Chaddi group and BJP members are even opposing the handing over of this case to CBI.

The Cow slaughter and Love Jihad are the tools that always come handy to this Chaddi gangue to spread violence and destroy the bonding between the various communities that always prefer to live friendly otherwise.

The people involved in this heinous crime are priests, high profile officers and students. And we have a conception that educated people stay away from crimes.

I swear that even if any one kill my whole family ( God forbid) in front of me, I can't even think of retaliating by committing such a crime. That was just an innocent child.

For this crime no man made law can give punishment worth the crime. Only Almighty can punish them suitably in the hereafter.

May the Almighty give strength to the grieving family of the child.

I was watching a debate on TV where head of BJP in J&K was clearly rubbished the police report and justifying this barbaric act of these goons on the pretext of cow alsughter. I litterly cried looking at my 8 year old niece and the innocent photo of the victim, is it justifiable to say if somebody slaughter a cow or keep the meat in fridge or possess the meat should be raped or murderd then why Modi government is exporting beef. here in Dubai we get Indian beef in every supermarket shelf.

Come on guys at least teach the lesson to BJP, if they are ok in GoA and northeast to have beef, exposrt beef to other countries why dont you advise your caders of Hindutva let them to have whatever they want beef pork fish and worship whatever you want stone/river/tree/cow/snake and we do respect your sentiments but don't enforce your sentiments on others.

    Ivar, Mangalore,

There is no party that any Indian would willingly elect to govern; Indians elected the present government in masse based on their promises to give Indians good governance which they allegedly told us we missed for the past 70 years; it seems the only beneficiaries of these election time promises are the GAUs and their GAU RAKSHAKS.

Please direct this question to the National Commission for Juvenile Justice and to other national and international treaties of which India is signatory.

There is a lot of difference between Nirbhaya case and this 8 year old girl's case.

The abduction, brutal rape by multiple b-------ds, and finally the murder was a political vendetta of GAUs and GAU RAKSHAKS; Nirbhaya's rape was not political; and don't even try to politicize it to benefit your masters.

    @Rathan,

Peace loving community even does not consider 17 year old as juvenile. They would be more happy if he is given nothing less than death sentence.

As usual people alike your mentality try to politicize and play victim card by bring religion issue into any matter. It's not Kejriwal but law of the land (court) that released him. But nobody from peace loving community sat on dharna to release him while he was arrested; unlike this case of 8 year old child where chaddi gangue is sitting on dharna against handing over this case to CBI.

Bakarwala community is nomadic and involved in rearing/trading goats. That they slaughter/sell cow/meat is a roumor spread by the political member.

However, to have abducted/confined/raped and killed a human for assumed crime involving cows is barbaric. Is a life of a human is above an animal ?

People, please analyse this before you head towards polling booths.
