3 held in Sri Lanka for smuggling gold


Colombo, Apr 12 (IANS): The Sri Lanka Navy on Thursday caught three people for attempting to smuggle 24.2 kg of gold from the country via sea.

The three Sri Lankans were detained in the sea north of Mannar in the island's north, Xinhua news agency reported.

The Navy said the 242 gold biscuits, each weighing 100 grams, were worth 150 million Sri Lankan rupees ($963,000). Their boat was also seized.
