Mangaluru, Apr 16: Corporator Prathibha Kulai on Monday, April 16, condemned the rape and brutal murder of 8-year-old child at Kathua.

Addressing media Prathibha Kulai said, "The brutal rape and murder of an 8-year-old child at Kathua is a shameful act. I am ashamed to call myself an Indian. I will call my daughter Prithvi by the name of the 8-year-old victim at Kathua. Now the so called nationalists and BJP members might pelt stones at me for saying this.

“I am also a Hindu and my religion says to love and respect all religions. The only caste is male and female, nothing more than that. Crime rate against women is on the rise. We hear about women as much as 4-year-old to 80-year-old getting raped and murdered. We all know how Nirbhaya was killed and how brutal her death was. The main reason is our government and the law which is being practiced in our country.

“These so called ‘Hindus’ from BJP raise slogans 'Bharath Matha Ki Jai. I want to ask them one question. Are these ‘Mathas’ and Hindu women safe? After the pub and home stay attack, we are so insecure. We call ourselves educated and live in an uncivilized way. I urge people to think and vote during the forthcoming elections so that such horrifying incidents are not repeated.

"Our prime minister says ‘Beti Bachao’, but during the last five years, crime rate in our country has increased. Our ‘Chowkidaar’ has no respect towards women because he himself has left his wife. How can we expect to be safe? Yogi has become ‘Jogi’ who does not know the importance of women as he is not married and does not have a daughter,” she said.

Speaking on how BJP supporters troubled her during the last elections, she said, “During the last elections, these so called protectors of Hindus from BJP had restricted me from campaigning at Kodikere and 30 men had attacked me for which I have filed a complaint. Even today I go to court for its trial. When I visit the court, it is horrifying to see the way the accused behave. After the counting, they urinated on my vehicle. The reason I am mentioning this today is that I do not want these incidents to happen again during my visit for campaigning in Kodikere area,” she said.
