Property dealer shot dead in Meerut

Meerut, Apr 16 (IANS): Unidentified bike-borne miscreants on Monday shot dead a prominent property dealer in this Uttar Pradesh city, police said.

The incident took place on Rohta road when four youngsters barged into the shop of Narendra, and started firing indiscriminately at him.

The property dealer was hit by six bullets and died on the spot, police said, adding that the assailants then fled the crime scene without any resistance as they brandished their weapons at the crowd which had gathered outside by then.

A police official told IANS that they are trying to ascertain the reasons for the murder.

"We are exploring all options from professional rivalry to property dispute to possibility of some personal enmity," the official said.

The body has since been sent for post-mortem and police is speaking to the deceased's family.
