Bengal Panchayat poll: HC division bench refuses to interfere with stay


Kolkata, April 16 (IANS): A division bench of the Calcutta High Court on Monday refused to interfere with a single bench order staying the West Bengal panchayat election process and asked the single bench to hear the case on the fast track, and on a daily basis, if needed.

Disposing off an appeal filed by the state's ruling Trinamool Congress and the State Election Commission against the stay given on the poll process by the single bench, the bench of Justice Biswanath Samaddar and Justice Arindam Mukherjee said at this stage, it did not want to interefere in the case.

The judges asked the single bench of Justice Subrata Talukdar to hear the case on the fast track. "If need be, the court can hear the matter on a daily basis," it said.
