6-year-old who went to buy biscuits raped, strangled, left to die in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Apr 23 (DC): A six-year-old girl in Odisha who had gone to purchase biscuits was raped, strangulated and left inside a school campus at Jagannathpur village in Cuttack district of Odisha presuming her to be dead on Saturday evening.

The girl suffered multiple injuries on her head, face, neck and chest and is admitted in a hospital. Her condition is said to be “very critical”. A 25-year-old man of the same village was arrested on Sunday.

According to police, the girl had gone to buy biscuits on Saturday. However, when she did not return home after some time and there was a power cut, her worried family members set out to look for her along with a group of villagers.

"After a frantic search for over an hour the girl was traced lying unconscious and without clothes in the school campus with blood oozing from her head and mouth," the police said.

The alleged rapist had left her in that state presuming she was dead, police added.

The six-year-old was immediately taken to a private nursing home nearby and later moved to Cuttack's SCB Medical College and Hospital.

The alleged rapist lives in the girl's village of Jagannathpur and has been charged for rape and attempt to murder. "A case... was registered on the basis of a written complaint filed by the girl"s grandfather," police inspector DK Mallick said.

Odisha health minister Pratap Jena, who visited the girl in the hospital, said a team of at least 13 doctors from several departments are treating her.

Two other rapes were reported in Odisha over the weekend when the centre cleared an emergency executive order to introduce death penalty for those found raping minors.

A four-year-old girl was raped allegedly by a minor, her neighbor, in a village in Odisha's Kendrapara district. Police said she was raped near the Paika riverbed last Friday allegedly by a school boy. Sexual assault was confirmed after medical examination of both the girl and the boy.

In another case, a 30-year-old man was arrested for allegedly kidnapping and raping a Class 6 student was two days in Odisha's Kalahandi district. According to the complaint, the student had gone to her uncle's house on April 17 to attend a family function.

While returning, she was abducted by a man named Munna Naik and taken to his house, where he kept the girl for two days and allegedly raped her. The man later abandoned the girl on the roadside on Thursday evening.

The girl narrated the ordeal to her family members after which a complaint was filed.

Why ? You still desiring to shield this rape also? Stop giving communal color for everything happening in and around you. Nirbhaya and unnao girls were not muslims. Why cant people like minded you take initiate to protest this time. Does anyone stop you? FYI , ordinance already implimented and rapists will be given death penalty. This has happened only after ountrywide protest intesification againzt Asifa rape and the international community condemnation against FEKU govt. approach which tried to shield the rapists.

I noted one thing ..there is " Disagree" marked for most of the comments. These looks really strange and scary....
Who with sound mind will hit disagree to below comments.
    1) What is happening in our nation and what is the cause for this increasing rape of children in India to be deplored.
    2) Until law is not there to castrate rapist , rapes will go on
    3) Oh, NO. Not again.
    Awareness of consequences is important.
Must start educating people on this topic.
Start an advertisement campaign about the punishment.
    4) this is really sad. entire nation should protest against this kind of incidents. there should not be any politics while selecting the incidents for protest. justice required for each case.
    5) No you give death penalty.... Just within 2 days he should be hanged...
    6) And we will still wait for the hanging....
    7) No matter how much we protest, no matter how much candle light march we do until these type of mentally sick people are not punished nothing will change, you cannot educate these sick minded persons , you cannot assume that these people will listen and change. our country is filled with rapists, mentally unsound people and the worst part is them being supported by mentally sick politicians for their gains and influential people to divide on basis of religion. it is easy to show our anger and protest but theses things have to be executed efficiently. who on earth would like to visit India as tourists if these kind of incidents happen every now and then that too with the innocent children.
    8) Hang those criminals immediately..

Looks like some weird minded people are around.. quite scary..

Rape is not limited to any country or religion. Rape is just a criminal mentality of some people. India is far better compared to many other developed countries, compared with population ( pleas don't misunderstand that i am justifying) Rape is bad. Just google and find out the details. Even in USA, ITALY, UK etc situation is alarming. Don't just defame India. Let us all try to educate people and try to prevent the crime.

In some African countries it is very severe. In western countries though there are high incidence of rapes, the victim is not stigmatised as much as india. I am told that reporting of rape is very low and most rapes are committed by relatives or neighbours. The report of rapes come out if victim is also killed. Very sad incidents and hurts deep inside. Hope we see some hanging of child rapists.
