'I am Hindu', says 'Christian' TDP MLA Vangalapudi Anitha over TTD Board appointment

Chittoor, Apr 23 (Zee News): The appointment of Christian Telugu Desam Party legislator Vangalapudi Anitha's as a member of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) Board has sparked a massive controversy. The MLA, who claims to be a Hindu, has now requested TDP chief and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu to withdraw her appointment.

In a letter to Naidu, tweeted by news agency ANI, Anitha said that she doesn't want to cause any embarrassment to the government.

“However, I'm deeply pained to learn some groups with vested interests have created an unsavory controversy about this. I would like to state that I am a Hindu, and belong to Scheduled Caste,” she wrote in the letter.

“I do not want this unsavory controversy to cause any embarrassment to you and to the government. Therefore, I request you to withdraw my appointment as member of the Board of TTD,” she adds.

Following Anitha's appointment as a member of the TTD Board, a controversy emerged after a video surfaced where she allegedly claims to be Christian.

"I always have a Bible in my bag and in my car. I don't move out without the Bible in hand," she's seen telling the interviewer in the video, as reported by news agency PTI.

Objecting to this, BJP members said that the appointment of a Christain in TTD board is an insult to Hindus.

The BJYM, the youth wing of the BJP, slammed the government over the appointment and demanded her removal.

"It's nothing but sacrilege. How can a self-proclaimed Christian be appointed to a Hindu religious body," Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) state president S Vishnuvardhan Reddy said, adding "she should be removed forthwith."

The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams Board governs the Lord Venkateswara's shrine at Tirumala.

BJP members said that the appointment of a Christain in TTD board is an insult to Hindus.
Let this statement be known to everybody, to every nook and corner.
BJP is claiming, Hinduism is way of life. All Hindustani's are Hindu's.
If Hindu become Christian, they have a Problem.
If a Christian become Hindu, then too they have a problem.!!!
If a Adivasi or Dalit, who doesn't have any religion, if becomes Christian they have problem.
Nor they like to accept them as their own!

Double standard by BJP. BJP allies with Muslim majority PDP, BJP allies with Christian majority North Indian states, BJP allies with Christian majority Goa. Communal BJP must first introspect and act and not be opportunistic.

When humanity issue comes, these fringe communal groups will hide and such issues comes they are at the front end to protest for their Hindu religion. When non Hindu people visit Tirupathi and donate crores of money and gold to temple, that time these communal people will not object. Hypocrites. These people time and again are proving the whole world that they are communals with a fake Hindutva ideology. And also, they prove always that they are not real Hindus.
I appreciate this ladies honesty to uplift her parties reputation.

Administration and devotees are two different aspects. Let any devotee pray. But administration should be with respective community. So many Hindus believe in Haji Ali, Ajmer Shareef and churches. Does not mean they should be made part of administration of mosque and churches. Same thing holds good here as well.

I am so delighted that the MLA has proclaimed herself to be a Hindu despite being an adherent of the Christian faith. In my view, all Christians (including me) who originally belonged to the Hindu faith should be recognized as Hindus; in fact, there is reason for us to style ourselves as Hindu-Christians (which I prefer) or Christian-Hindus, a proposition mooted in the past by a Jesuit priest.
As a matter of reality, Christians still, despite the passage of a few hundred years, informally believe in caste structure they originally belonged (bamon, sudir, etc), especially when it comes to marriage alliances.
May be, Rahul Gandhi would come forward and recognize his duality of faith.

There is nothing like a Hindu Christian .You can't keep your feet in 2 boats at the same time .Rather an Indian Christian is the right term .If you are a Hindu believe and worship Hindu god's , if you are a Christian worship Jesus .both religions are completely different from each other . Hindusim , Buddhism , Jainism have common connections ,but not with Christianity .same way Christianity , and Judaism have connections .

The tag of Hindu- Christian, or Christian Hindu or even so, Indian Christian is the words used to integrate into the local community. Similar like Arab Christian.

The culture, habits, communication style, the dress code almost remains the same. Like Hindus, the European, African, Asean Christians believe in tradition.

The faith of Christianity, who believe in Lord Jesus Christ and Hinduism who believe in their Gods, may definitely different. Let us respect each other and accept the common cultural belief for the betterment & integration of the society.
