Calgary, AB (Canada), Apr 26: Fr John Alex Pinto, originally from Mangaluru and now serving in Canada over 9 years, celebrated his 60th birthday through thanksgiving mass concelebrated by Fr Jerry D’Souza, regional superior, Fr Rudy D’Souza, Fr Melvin Pinto and Fr Godwin Pinto, Carmelite fathers who are of Mangalurean origin at St Thomas More Church in Calgary.
Ordained priest on April 29th, 1986 and hence served people of God for 32 years for now. He has two siblings. His eldest sister and younger brother are settled in India.
He completed his initial primary education at Bantwal and high school in number of schools including famous Padua High School in Mangaluru.
After completing pre-university at St Philomena’s Puttur, he entered Carmelites. It was through his parish local parish priest in Loreto, Bantwal in India who knew Carmelites and introduced him to them. He did his philosophical studies in Kerala for fours years and thereafter, theology in Jeppu, Mangaluru.
During his 34 years of priestly life he served various parishes in India and overseas.
Starting from Mysuru, Karnataka, Kuwait, Meera Road, Mumbai, Mangaluru, Londa – Belgaum, Vancouver, British Columbia and right now he has been serving at Calgary, AB, Canada for 9 years.
As a priest or pastor of St Thomas More parish he has served over 9 years and reports to regional superior in Vancouver and local bishop in Calgary. He is ardent follower of St Theresa of Avila and St John of the Cross.
He has bought out many new programmes at St Thomas More parish in Calgary including multi-cultural mass and engaged people of all culture without any discrimination. In turn, the number parishioners have increased and people of all communities come to St Thomas More Church and united the church of God.
