Students stone patrol party in Kashmir town

Srinagar, Apr 26 (IANS): An Army patrol on Thursday fired aerial shots after students of the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) at Awantipora in Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag district pelted stones at them.

Police said the patrol was repairing communication cables outside the university when they came under attack.

"Some shots were fired by the Army in the air after which they withdrew from the spot," a police officer said. "Police and the CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) reached the spot and used tear smoke shells to quell the protests."
