Bengaluru: Modi's first mega election rally fails to generate expected power - Analysts

Political Correspondent
Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru

Bengaluru, May 1: Prime Minister Narendra Modi's much-awaited first election campaign rally in Karnataka held in Chamarajnagar on Tuesday, May 1 has failed to live up to the expectations of BJP leaders in the state. Top party leaders have been heavily relying on star campaigner Modi for a reversal of their electoral fortunes, but unfortunately for them, the maiden rally of the blitzkrieg campaign did not pack enough punch.

A political analyst who closely watched Modi's lenghthy speech said, "Modi spoke very well as usual, but probably due to the inability of the translator to make his Hindi speech understable to the crowd, the much-expected power was not generated. As usual, he mocked Rahul Gandhi, naming him 'Naamdaar' while calling himself the 'Kaamdaar'. He attacked CM Siddaramaiah, Sonia Gandhi and Dr Manmohan Singh, but failed to answer the important questions raised by CM Siddaramaiah about the corruption by state BJP leaders and also the promises made by PM Modi in 2014."

Analysts also pointed out that the translator was not as aggressive as Modi in repeating his speech in Kannada. The crowd was seen reacting only when the translator spoke in Kannada, which clearly indicated that the majority of the crowd did not understand what Modi was saying with his usual body language.

Reacting after the first Modi rally, a BJP leader in Mysuru said this was just the first rally, and things would change as he addresses rest of his rallies in the state one after the other.

Modi committed a blunder by mocking CM Siddaramaiah for contesting from two seats. Fear of losing prompted the CM to contest in another, he said. Analysists say that when Modi himself contested in two Lok Sabha seats - in Vadodara and Varanasi - he should not have touched that subject. Soon after the rally, CM Siddaramaiah rebutted Modi in a similar manner.

"Was it fear that drove you to contest from 2 parliamentary constituencies (Varanasi & Vadodara) Mr. PM @narendramodi ? Of course you are a 56 inch man, you would have some clever explanation!! Forget 2 seats, Sir. Worry about the fact that your party will not cross 60-70!(sic)" the CM tweeted.

Karnataka wants to know if Yeddyurappa is still your CM candidate?

We trusted BJP and elected them with majority, now why all so called big shots of BJP are in karnataka, who is going to look after India. BJP had 4 years to show people what they are capable of as they can pass any bill with majority.

Why Modi has to come and campaign in every election, why cant he show his achievements and get the votes.

I really appreciate Siddaramaya now, he is along standing against the full BJP force.

Karnataka is an educated state unlike UP n Bihar. They voted for BJP earlier and got corruption in return. The kind of broad day light loot was so much, it did not take them more in kicking out BJP from power. BJP has to showcase the same faces again.

Apparently, if people vote for BJP, it is quite clear indication that people do not like clean administration. They need corrupt to rule. This is certainly not going to happen in Karnataka.

Modi had an edge earlier, he could have still made Yeddy face BJP a winner in India. But, he is now carrying his own burden of failures. Giving up Indian territory to China, Pushing middle class to brink of poverty, Youth loosing all hopes of getting jobs, scammers looting country and moving out of the country for luxury life, is all seen by people as his failures. His word is not taken seriously except for he gives them good entertainment with his own style of dialogue delivery.

The corrupt class is really after Modi to come to power, because they can get their crime washed away easily, like the way Reddy and Yeddy achieved.

Mr. Modi also remember that fixing electric poles and wires does not make the nation fully electrified, you need to provide power also so that the lights come on........... I am telling you, just in case you don't know this............as with many other things related to governance.

Mr. Modi has dug his and BJP's grave in Karnataka, this man has nothing in his armory to blame others than highlighting what he has done for the nation in 4 years rule. Mr. Modi, the ground reality is people are so fed up with you and BJP, the results in Karnataka will show that once the results are declared.
