Patna, May 1 (IANS): Three people, including the driver and guard of an express train, were arrested here on Tuesday for smuggling 10 cartons of Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL), police said.
A joint team of the Government Railway Police and Railway Protection Force raided the Ahmadabad-Patna Express at Danapur station and seized five cartons from the engine.
According to the police, the raid followed a tip that the three men were involved in liquor smuggling from Uttar Pradesh to Bihar.
"The driver and guard admitted the five cartons were for delivery in Patna and five more were already delivered at the Ara station in Bhojpur district," a police official said.
According to official records, over 1 lakh people have been arrested for violating the liquor ban in the state imposed by the Janata Dal-United government on April 5, 2016.
