Bengaluru, May 3: Karnataka is not in a position to release any quantum of water to Tamil Nadu as the storage level in all the four reservoirs in the Cauvery basin is poor, said Karnataka’s Water Resources Minister M B Patil.

In an official statement released to the media in Bengaluru on Thursday, the minister claimed that the storage levels in the four reservoirs in the Cauvery basin was not adequate to meet the drinking water as well as the standing crops.

Reacting to the Supreme Court's observation on the release of water to Tamil Nadu, the Minister said: ``The present storage in all the four reservoirs in Karnataka in the Cauvery basin is only about 9 tmc of water which is not enough to meet the drinking water and crop needs.’’

"We will direct the Legal team to communicate about the poor water storage situation in our dams to the Supreme Court," he said.

The new water release season has also ended in December 2017, the minister said.
