Bengaluru: Death of candidate - assembly poll from Jayanagar constituency put off

Bengaluru, May 5: In view of the death of a sitting MLA and BJP candidate from Jayanagar constituency here, B N Vijay Kumar, election from this constituency stands postponed.

The returning officer, through an order issued on Friday May 4, said that election from Jayanagar constituency has been countermanded till further orders, duly keeping the discretion to fix another date for the election pending.

Vijay Kumar, who is pitted against home minister, Ramalinga Reddy's daughter, Sauymya Reddy, in the election, had collapsed to the ground when campaigning for the party on the night of May 3. Although he was admitted into a hospital here immediately, he breathed his last early morning on May 4.

As per the Representation of People's Act, election has to be withheld in case of death of a candidate from a national party.
