Puttur, May 6: "People from BJP are obstructing the development of the city. If this was not the case, I would have canvassed for BJP. Now I am associated with BJP only because of Narendra Modi," said Urimajal Rama Bhat, former MLA, venting out his anger on local and state BJP leaders.
Rama Bhat, who had built BJP in Puttur and worked hand in hand with the Sangh Parivar from the time of Jana Sangh, took out his frustration and expressed unhappiness over the working style of the present state and local BJP leaders at a press conference here on Saturday May 5.
Continuing his attack on the present BJP leaders he said, "The working style of Puttur and state BJP leader is not satisfactory. There is no development done. B S Yeddyurappa went to prison when he was chief minister of Karnataka. Mini Vidhana Soudha is built in Puttur. However, it is not located in the proper place. Will any sane person build a mini Vidhana Soudha in a bus stand? People from BJP obstructed in the matter of Puttur 'Santhe' also. APMC administration is in the hands of BJP. Even then, who were hell-bent on bringing 'Santhe' back to its original place from APMC?
"There is belief that if the 'Santhe' goes back to APMC, there is no chance to mint money. BJP leaders are using 'Santhe' to make money. They are doing business in 'Santhe' also. They are not bothered about widening the road. BJPians have put hurdles intentionally for the widening of a railway overbridge at Nehrunagar."
"BJP is in no way lesser than Congress and JDS when it comes to corruption. Maybe when we count in crores, BJP might be little on the lower side. Apart from that, in all other senses, BJP is equivalent to other parties. When I was the MLA, this situation was not like the one at present. Present politics has reached its nadir. I am only hopeful that Narendra Modi will do something. That is why I am still sticking on to BJP," he said.
In praise of Shakuntala Shetty's work
"Shakuntala Shetty has brought in a lot of money through grants as MLA and secretary of parliament. Roads are developed. People are praising her work. There is more to be done. However, many projects are complete. Good work should be appreciated even if it is done by the opposition party. Shankutala Shetty might be in any party, but she has worked for the constituency," lauded Rama Bhat on the development done by Congress MLA Shankuntala Shetty.
To the question of scribes whether he will support Shankuntala in the forthcoming elections, Rama Bhat replied, "I have not decided on this till now. I will decide in the coming days. My well-wishers know my mind."
