Mangaluru: St Aloysius first to go online for admissions - starts new PG courses


Record number of applications received

Mangaluru, May 7: From LKG to PhD, St Aloysius institutions offer all. The 137 year old college has emerged to be Mangaluru’s premier educational hub with lacs of students who have passed out from its portals, earning laurels in different fields.

This year, St Aloysius College became the first institution in the coastal region to go completely online for admissions. In just three days after the II PUC result was announced, the college received 1600 applications for its degree courses, which does not come as a surprise given the quality education and facilities the college is known to offer.



Post-Graduate Courses

St Aloysius College was the first in Mangaluru to start post-graduate studies outside university, with the beginning of MCA 20 years ago. Today the College boasts of 17 post-graduate courses under various disciplines. They are: M. Com, MBA, MA English, Economics, Journalism and Mass Communication, Corporate Psychology, MSW, MSc Biotechnology, Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Food Science and Technology, Biochemistry, Software Technology, Bio-informatics, and MCA.

New Courses

This year the college will begin three more new courses: M. Com (Finance and Analytics); MSc (Nutrition and Dietetics); M. Sc (Big Data Analytics).

Not just that, at the undergraduate level, the college will begin Performing Arts as a subject.

The strength of the Post-graduate Centre of SAC is the experienced and research oriented faculty, state of the art laboratories, library with a vast collection of books and journals, well equipped studio, Community Radio Sarang etc. Campus placements enable students to find jobs even as they are studying; educational tour at every department is yet another attractive feature that helps students widen their horizons. There are also hostel facilities for outstation students. Of course, deserving students are given scholarships.

Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Kaushal Kendra

It is yet another feather in the cap of St Aloysius College that it was recognized as a Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Kaushal Kendra by the central government, one of just two colleges to secure this status in Karnataka. Through this centre, the College has been granted funds to establish three courses: Retail Management; Food Processing and Engineering; and
Pharmaceutical Chemistry.

In fact, the College has also been granted to start a community college where two important job oriented courses are being conducted. They are: Computer Animation and Multi-media; and Travel and Tourism. These courses can be availed by those who have passed or failed SSLC and PUC.

Ranked 94 by NIRF

St Aloysius College has been ranked as one of the top hundred colleges (ranked 94) by National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF). The College had received 3.62 grade points out of 4 in the NAAC accreditation four years back. Also, the College has received the ‘Star Status’ given by the Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India. Such a status has been granted to just 16 colleges in India and St Aloysius being one of them is a matter of pride for Mangalureans.

Olympics size swimming pool

The College has just recently constructed an Olympics size (50 meter) swimming pool which has become a popular destination for the swimming enthusiasts. It is the first swimming pool in Mangaluru and the third in the state to put in place ozonised water purifying technology. The pool has been able to create waves among Mangalureans within a short span of time.

Online admissions

This year the applications are received online. Students after applying online for admission must send a hard copy to the college office. The eligible students will be called for interview.
